Record ID: DUR-011C51
Object type: CORE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A Mesolithic flint core rejuvenation flake. The core is rhomboid shaped and has a battered striking platform. Much of the surface is covered with various flaking scars. There is a very small amount of retouch along parts of the tapering end of the flake. A long, parallel, semi-abrupt retouch adjacent to the point, possibly indicates an attempt to repurpose the flake as a pointed implement. The finder suggests a possible spear point. The flint is a dark grey-brown colour. Length: 62.75mm, widt:h 30.82mm, thickness: 12.54mm, weight: 17.1g

Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An undatable Prehistoric (Neolithic to Early Bronze Age, 4000-1600 BC) tertiary flint flake with short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch along the upper right dorsal edge. The flint is white/ blue grey in colour and opaque. It is not a struck flake and is triangular in shape with thick edges. Recent damage to one edge shows the flint beneath to be grey in colour and opaque. Alex Whitlock comments that it could be an attempt at a side scraper on debitage of perhaps Neolithic to Early Bronze Age date (pers. comm. March 2018). Measures 50.8x(max.)33.9x(max.)10.2mm and weighs 20.85g.

Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete knapped lithic implement of probable Mesolithic date, circa 9,000 - 4,000 BC. The implement is a piece of debitage, or waste material, produced during the knapping process. It is a tertiary flake which is sub-triangular in plan and section. The dorsal surface displays conchoidal fractures and a bulb of percussion. Two long flake removals are present on the ventral surfaced denoted by further conchiodal fractures. No other signs of working are evident. The flint is dark orange in colour with patchy lighter inclusions. It measures 49.8mm in length, 16.2mm in width, 5.2mm i…

Object type: POLISHED AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
An incomplete Neolithic (4000-2350 BC) flint polished axehead with damage to the thicker end, apparently re-worked, and re-working (perhaps through damage) at the narrower end. The axehead is oval in shape, flaring from the thinner edge to roughly half way; beyond, the original sides of the axehead are missing and it is not possible to tell at which point it curved back towards the thicker edge (if at all). Given the damaged ends of the axehead it is not possible to tell which was originally the cutting edge and which the butt-end, although it is more likely that the thinner end, alth…

Object type: BURIN
Broad period: PALAEOLITHIC
County: Kent
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A probable flint burin dating from the Upper-Palaeolithic to early Neolithic date, although earlier date seems likely. Description: The burin is formed from a small flake of pointed flake, with one long edge. The triangular point has a long edges with some flaking on, which actually has short scaled semi-abrupt retouch at the proximal end (end where the flake was removed) and short edge with scaled short abrupt retouching flattening this edge. A spall or burin removal from this retouched platform created by this crushing/flattening retouch. This burin retouch creates a small gaugin…

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: PALAEOLITHIC
County: Kent
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A large possible lower-middle Palaeolithic flint scraper. Description: The object is formed from an irregular flint flake triangular in cross-section. The dorsal face is quite high which helps form this cross section. The bulb of percussion on the reverse is fairly shallow although the discoidal rippling is very pronounced. There is a removal flake across where the bulb of percussion which suggest a level of shaping. The wide outside edge of the tool appears to be the working edge with short scaled abrupt retouch along a small section abutting the striking platform end. The rest …
