A lead weight, or plumb bob, of unknown date, AD 43 - 1800. The object is ovoid (egg-shaped) and is perforated with a very small hole running from end to end. The hole is 0.6mm diameter, and could only accomodate thin thread or wire. The weight has a smooth, well developed patina with some post-depositional scratches. It is 24.4mm long, 18.6mm diameter and 43.6g. The mass does not appear to correspond closely with any regular system of weighing, perhaps suggesting that the object is a plumb bob or net weight. There is a small circular hole running longitudinally but off-centre through the weight, with a diameter of 2.4mm. The weight is slightly wider at one end than the other. It has rounded corners and a hollow in the base cuased by the lead shrinking as it cooled. It is 18.1mm tall, 15.4mm diameter and 23.87g.
