Gold finger ring. Posy ring. A cast D-section band, plain externally, but with an internal inscription rendered in angular capitals. The inscription reads: xASxYOVxWILx // with saltires separating words and with two superfluous slashes; the last word has doubled lines forming the I and L and serifs are prominent throughout. The phonetically correct English may point to a 17th-century date. Slightly battered. If the proposed dating were to be sustained, the item would constitute Treasure. A complete gold finger ring from the late Post-Medieval period, possibly dating to the Regency era of the early 19th century (c.AD 1795-1837). The finger ring is a simple band which is decorated on the outside with a floral design. This design consists of a raised circle encircling a smaller circle with a dot inside. Either side of this are sub-circular shapes which represent flower petals. Elements of these sections of the finger ring are repeated with some swirl designs.
