Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: East Riding of Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lead cuboid weight of probable Early-Medieval date, c.AD 950 - 1050. The weight is crudely fashioned by pressing a lump of lead against a flat surface to form a slightly-flattened cuboid. No effort was spent to make the surfaces uniform and meet at the edges, resulting in rough, unfashioned bands between each face. The object is light grey in colour. It is 30.10mm in length, 29.44mm in width and 15.75mm in thickness. It weighs 68.00g. Similar weights have been published by Haldenby Kershaw (2014) and are dated to the late 9th - early 10th century due to their association wi…

Similar weights have been published by Haldenby Kershaw (2014) and are dated to the late 9th - early 10th century due to their association with more diagnostic object types from the same site which provide a "narrow chronological window of activity" (p.108). They are described as belonging "to a Scandina…
