An incomplete possible Medieval copper alloy mount dating to 1400-1450. The mount is circular in plan with the remains of two small prongs projecting on one side. There appears to be a brownish red residue in between the prongs which may possibly be the remains of a rivet. The mount is biconvex, and on both sides there is a concave circular centre, or recess, with a pierce hole. The diameter of the central circle is 8.9mm. The mount is in the form of an animal's foot (trilobed) with a flat base and three claws projecting from around the outer edge. The projections are circular in cross-section. Fragment of Anglo-Saxon gilt copper alloy probable mount, narrow sub-triangular inner end broken with its deep bordering rim curling outward and then back on itself and continuing as the convex outer edge of an expanded terminal. The recessed pelta shaped inner field is decorated asymmetrical single-strand interlace, pierced by a single secondary drilled hole. A small fragment of the inner field survives at the break before the springing of the scrolls with a sub-triangular mounlding. Extant length 17mm. Width 21mm. 3.5mm thick. 4.261g. 8th century.
