Lead conical spindle whorl of probable early medieval or medieval date (c. 500 - 1500 AD). The spindle whorl has a rough light grey surface with marks and fissures due to the rough casting of the object's manufacture. The object is 22.90mm in diameter and 9.86mm in thickness. The diameter of the hole is 8.12mm. The spindle whorl weighs 26.35g. Lead objects are difficult to date and spindle whorls changed little in form from the Roman to the medieval period. Without a firm context, therefore, the date of this example must remain uncertain.
