Lead vessel repair or pot mend. Cast plug to mend a hole in a vessel wall of thickness c.5.5mm, of trapezoid form externally, where a roughly shield-shaped depression appears in the lead. The inner side shows traces of the congealing of lead as it was dribbled into the pot to be mended. Patinated, and abraded. A tiny fleck of red oxidised fabric appears on the mend; a pot mend with trapped fabric of similar tint found nearby is suggested to be Roman. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Medieval, 43-1500. Length: 30mm, Width: 22mm, Thickness: 17.2mm, Weight: 49.44gms

Lead vessel repair or pot mend. A small neat oval cast plug to mend a hole in a vessel wall of thickness 3.4mm. Patinated. Fragments of a sandy orange oxidised fabric are trapped in the mend, which is flat and tidy on the outer side of the vessel and slightly less tidy within where the lead was poured. The small size and neat finish may point to a Roman date which the fabric may tend to confirm. Suggested date: Roman, 43-410. Length: 25mm, Width: 20.2mm, Thickness: 11.8mm, Weight: 27.70gms
