Object type: SICKLE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age sickle fragment, the pointed tip is absent, broken transversely by a bending fracture, leaving only the thicker basal half of the implement, it is worked from an elongated nodule of mottled grey and black flint, with some slight iron stains, both faces exhibit patches of thin, weathered cortex where the flakes failed to meet in the middle. The flake scars are from direct soft hammer percussion, with some of the earlier flake scars that are still visible appear to be hard hammer struck, the cross section at the break is lenticular. The back edge of th…

Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Early Neolithic leaf shaped arrowhead, made from a tertiary soft hammer struck flat flake, semi-invasively pressure flaked around the periphery, with the middle of both faces retaining the original flake surface: - of pale patinated banded flint with the tip now light grey, dark bands run obliquely across the middle, and the base is mid-grey. Small recent damage to the edges show the flint was a darker shade before deposition. The bulb of percussion has been removed and is oriented at the point. 45 x 21 x 3.5 mm. 3g. 4,000 to 3,500 BC.

Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Possible Late Neolithic oblique arrowhead of unpatinated black flint, steeply and quickly retouched from a tertiary blade-like flake along one lateral edge, and at the base of the other lateral edge to form a tang for hafting. The bulb of percussion has been removed and is oriented at the point. 41.5 x 14 x 3 mm. 1g. 3,000 to 2351 BC.

Object type: CORE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
One small bifacial core, of plano-convex shape, largely due to the shape of the natural thermal (frost) fracture of the nodule that was selected as the "blank" for the core. All flake scars are hard hammer struck and some thin cortex remains to the dorsal face, as does a linear flaw in the flint near the centre, the ventral face retains some of the original thermally fractured face. 56 x 41 x 23 mm. 51g.

Object type: BORER
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
4 hard hammer struck sub-triangular piercers or borers, one primary, three secondary, one of mid-grey flint and the rest dark grey to black, all are unpatinated. The constrictions are slightly modified by steep retouch or use wear. Largest: 56 x 32.5 x 10 mm. Smallest: 47 x 29 x 16 mm. 54 g in total.
Note: Borers are central to this image, part of a large collection of finds from this field in this batch, see other records from this finder and other ref (IND01112017JG) for full IDs.
