Cast copper alloy possible 'hawking' whistle, hollow and cylindrical but waisted in plan and circular in section. At the closed end there is a circular suspension loop 4.91mm diameter surrounded with possible decoration to the body, but this is obscured by indentations obtained whilst in the ground. Below the waisted section the body flares out trumpet shaped to an abrupt indentation, following which the object is dented and damaged with no further possible definition to what was possibly the mouthpiece end. The object has a casting line from the base of the suspension loop all aroun…

Lead weight. Cast weight approaching a rhomboid form, of plano-convex section, with a central moulded hole of diameter 4.6mm. The convex surface is rough or textured. Patinated. The mass does not closely correspond to units observing any particular system, while the form is also unusual. There are no marks to indicate the intended function of the hole, which is a little small to admit a spindle. Suggested date: unknown, Roman to Medieval, 43-1500. Length: 25.7mm, Width: 21.4mm, Height/Thickness: 13.3mm, Weight: 31.16gms
