A medieval to early post-medieval (c.1000-1550) wrought iron 'bearded' axehead. It has a triangular or wedge-shaped blade with a slight curve to the cutting edge; it projects downwards a little more than it projects upwards from the central body of the axe. The socket is drop or sub-oval in shape with a triangular extension to either side, extending downwards, and similarly a rounded extension on each side, extending upwards. The pendant is roughly circular and of flat section, with an incomplete pendant loop which would have projected upwards from the top. The upper surface (obverse) of the pendant has a relief-moulded design, the central element of which is an eagle, which stands facing forwards, wings spread and head turned to the left. A complete cast copper-alloy open-work escutcheon of post-medieval to modern date. The escutcheon is broadly circular but wth eight arched projections (creating an octfoil) with pointed projections between the foils. There is a central sub-rectangular perforation surrounded by four heart shape perforations, intersected by fleur de lys or acorns. In section the bracelet is sub-oval and in plan is curved and the curvature in the internal edge may suggest the internal diameter was c.40mm. A fragment of a copper-alloy Roman finger ring dating from AD 43 - 300. It consists of one shoulder, half of the oval bezel and part of the hoop. The hoop has a flat rectangular cross-section and tapers towards the back. The bezel is recessed to house a glass or gem setting which is now missing. The breaks are patinated. The ring is 13.8mm long, 13mm wide and 10.4mm thick. 2.14g. It has a grey green patina. Compare SF-846F38 and NARC-D8740C which are assigned to the Henig's type II (1974, p. 55, fig. 1).
