An incomplete cast lead-alloy cloth seal dating to the Post-Medieval period, c. 1600-1700. Only one side of the object survives, demonstrating a folded over rectangular tab at its upper edge and the remnants of an integrally cast stud on its lower, which would have served to attach both sides of the object together. On its outer face, the latin numerals XVII/XVII in two lines are visible. A Post Medieval cast lead alloy watch face from a toy watch dating AD 1700-1750. This is a Forsyth & Egan (2005) Type 8 Design 1: a multi-component watch with a plain case, angular profile and integrally cast pendant loop. The surviving element here is the dial which would have been recessed and supported on an internal flange just below the rim of the case with the rim pushed over the edge of the dial (see LON-98FC10 for a more complete example). The dial plate has a circumferential groove which encloses the chapter ring which is marked with engraved Roman hour numerals I-XII and sla…

An incomplete lead alloy vesica shaped seal matrix dating to the Medieval period, circa AD 1150-1400. The seal when complete would have been broadly pointed oval (vesica) shaped in profile. The seal has been made in one piece with an integrally moulded suspension loop at the reverse. The suspension loop has a circular piercing, although the loop has now been flattened and damaged against the seal. Lead alloy toy horse fragment. Hollow cast left hind leg of a horse, probably modelled at a scale of 1:32 or 54mm; patinated inside and out. Lead alloy toy rocket fragment. Cast tail of a solid cast cylindrical or cigar-shaped object with four equidistantly spaced fins at its end. A groove or paired ridges extend longitudinally between fins on opposite sides of the object. This is probably the tail of a toy rocket or aeroplane with a detachable head: a paper percussion cap would fit between the head and the body of the rocket, and would explode when the head made impact. This reporter recalls both rocket and aeroplanes on sale in toyshops of the 1960s; whether there were earlier versions is uncertain. Suggested date: Moder…

Lead alloy toy gun fragment. Hollow cast end of the stock of a toy musket or pistol, with a probably lentoid plain end, and with scrolls of vegetal ornament on its outer side. A finished edge along the upper side may suggest that this is one of two halves joined at a longitudinal seam. Neither such a construction nor the material used here would be suitable for a working miniature weapon taking a charge of black powder. Examples of toy guns from London are attributed to the 17th century. However, the decoration may be wilfully archaic, possibly in allusion to the decorated weaponry of…

40 pieces of lead of various forms. Given the context they came from they are certainly Roman. They appear a mix with some which may allude to casting. Others appear to be for vessel repair and it is possible all the pieces were used or gathered for this purpose. 5 are off-cuts of sheet lead, all show evidence of neat straight cuts on at least one edge and are 1-1.5mm thick. 1 has the distinct cross section of a vessel repair with expanded faces sandwiching a thinner joining section The larger pot mend is 57.3 by 35.1 by a maximum of 12.9mm thick and has repaired a vessel about …
