A fragment of a Medieval copper-alloy annular brooch (c. 1200-c. 1400).
This brooch fragment is flat at the front and rear. An inner and outer incised line forms a border on each face. Within the borders on each face there are straight and oblique incised lines forming pseudo inscriptions.
The fragment is corroded and drab green with abraded breaks.
Length: 28.7mm; width: 6.8mm; thickness: 1.8mm. Weight: 2.33g.
When complete, it is estimated that the outer diameter could have been about 40.0mm.

Complete Roman copper-alloy trumpet brooch dated to AD 75-175. Mackreth type TR 1.a3a. The brooch has an oval shaped trumpet head, with head-loop, narrowing to the curved upper bow which then tapers towards the foot, terminating in a foot-knob. The upper and lower bow are separated by a mouded knop. The catchplate extends approximately perpendicularly from the reverse of the lower bower bow. A medieval (c.1200-1400) copper-alloy gilt annular brooch, complete but with much of the original surface worn away. It carries an inscription on both faces. Gilding is retained in the grooved linear border which flanks both outer and inner edge of the frame on both faces, in the lettering and to the external edge of the frame which has a border of punched annulets. Roman copper alloy bow brooch of Polden Hill type and 1st to 2nd century AD date
The brooch is incomplete, missing the spring and leg (with a surviving length of 26.8mm, a surviving depth of 8.5mm and a weight of 4.5g). The missing spring was accommodated within semi-tubular wings, with the missing axis bar secured at the ends (with a width of 17.3mm and a diameter of 6.4mm). A damaged stub at the head represents the remains of a lug or hook to tension the chord. Fragment of a Roman silver trumpet derived bow and fantail brooch dating to the second century AD. Only the lower part (the fantail) and the catch plate survive.
Raised moulding below the break, acting as the terminus of the fantail, is decorated with two wide deep grooves and two smaller central grooves.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy bow brooch of Colchester Derivative type, double-lugged subtype, dating to the Roman period, c. 43-100 AD.
Only the head and upper half of the bow survive with the rest of the object broken away in old damage. It demonstrates a semi-circular sectioned, winged head; the wings themselves are decorated at their terminals with two collars and groove, though these are now very worn. A cast copper alloy T-shaped brooch dating to the Roman period. The object is flat at the top of the rectangular head. It tapers downwards forming the bow. The wings are semi-circular in cross-section. The bow is decorated with four lines coming together to form a smaller 'V' shape within a larger 'V'. Inside the 'V' is decorated by a small zig-zag pattern. At the base of the two 'V' shapes is a trio of tiny circles, one in the centre of the bow and one, slightly above, on either side. The brooch is incomplete, missing the leg and pin and is heavily-corroded (with a surviving length of 34.7mm, a surviving depth of 15.3mm and a weight of 14.2g). The missing pin was hinged within tubular wings, now truncated (with a surviving width of 24.2mm and a diameter of 9mm). An incomplete copper alloy bow brooch of Langton Down type. The wings are formed of two folded tabs at the head of the brooch and would have housed the coils of a sprung pin mechanism. There are traces of iron corrosion inside the wings. The head constricts to the bow which has an irregular hexagonal cross section. The bow tapers to a pointed foot and is decorated with a buried central longitudinal ridge, punched to produce a wavy line. Below this are two alternating transverse ridges and grooves above a plain leg. At the foot is a large catchplate which has been bent out of shape.

An incomplete copper alloy Colchester derivative, hinged brooch. The wings are short and tubular housing a copper alloy axis bar for the hinged pin. The expanded, pierced head of the pin only remains. The bow is arched from the wings and curves down, tapering as it does so, to a plain foot. There is the remnant of a catch plate at the rear of the foot. The bow is oval in cross section and decorated with a central longitudinal ridge.

The pin is a very simple design with a small part bent over itself to form a loop. The loop has been filled in with dirt, which has solidified. The shape of the pin has been bent into a thin "S" shape with the terminal broken off.

The brooch has only a quater of it's original size. The terminal section is still there with a knopped end and the break edge is 90 degrees from this point.
The whole object may have looked similar to brooch 107 from page 339 of "A Visual Catalogue of Richard Hattatt's Ancient Brooches".
