A complete Irish sixpence of James 1, AD1603-1625, from the second coinage dating to AD1604-7. SPINK 6514. The obverse shows a crowned bust, facing right. The decorative shoulder on the bust identifies it as the 'third bust' type as does the longer square-cut beard. The inscription reads IACOBVS D G MAG BRIT FRA ET H[IB] REX. The reverse shows a crowned harp with the inscription [TV]EATVR VNITA DEV[S] i.e May God guard the united. The initial mark is possibly a martlet which would date the coin as 1604-5.
