Broad period: NEOLITHIC
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An uncertain bifacial worked uncertain lithic object, possibly a levallois core of uncertain date.
Description: The object is roughly pear shaped, with a wider wide end. One side has an area of fine invasive scaled retouch reminiscent of levallois shaping but without any substantial method to it. This retouch is interrupted by a patch of cortex or fault. the other side has some flake insavive flake removals on the right side with a large removal again reminscant of levallois shaping leaving a large dish shape. The left side of this latter facing is heaving crushed indicating substa…

County: Kent
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An irregularly shaped probable flint blade of Neolithic to Bronze Age date.
Description: The object is irregularly shaped wiht a long thin blade and a wider square butt. It is formed from a secondary flake with some cortex still remaing at the butt end. The blade is formed from short abrupt retouch which produces shoulders with the butt. the back of the blade is formed by similar crushed short scaled abrupt retouch. All the object's rippling is produced from the hard hammer technique shwo by prominant conchoidal rippling and the ventral face's bulb of percussion.

An assemblage of 3 Neolithic flint implements.
An early Neolithic flint implement made on a tertiary blade and combining a scraper and a saw. Translucent grey and buff coloured flint. Retouched at both ends (short, scaler, abrupt) to form scrapers. Both mesial edges bear denticulate retouch to form saw teeth (10 teeth/cm). On one side, these appear to have been worn. There is a low bulb of percussion on the ventral face. Length 39.64mm; Width 16.31mm; Thickness 4.70mm; Weight 4.70g. a similar object can be seen at : FAKL-A45F13

Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Two flakes of flint debitage of possible Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic date, c. 8000-3000 BC. Both flakes are tertiary and incomplete, missing the distal ends to unpatinated, natural breaks. The two flakes are of different flints, one pale yellow-brown, the other far darker. Both are heavily patinated with traces of iron staining. Flake 1 (6.27g, of darker flint) exhibits a relatively large bulb of percussion, with a series of parallel removals from the dorsal face, obscured by a hinged removal at the proximal end. Flake 2 (4.95g) has a diffuse bulb of percussion, although with a…

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Devon
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A flint core of possible Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic date, c. 8000-3000 BC. The core is sub-conical, with a small area of sandy cortex retained near the point, and of a patinated grey flint with one off-white, heavily patinated facet. From one section of the core have been removed a series of narrow parallel flakes, but with more irregular flakes removed to either side, although these areas are also damaged.
Dimensions: Height 32.3mm; length 28.3mm; width 38.0mm; weight 39.05g.

Object type: BORER
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Grey-buff flint, honey-coloured under transmitted light, borer. A sub-triangular flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb at one corner of an otherwise flat ventral surface. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a curving convex edge; the opposite edge appears to have received similar short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect, defining a point where the two edges meet. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC.

Flint. A chip of lightly burnt flint with concentric crazing visible on both sides, and battered between them. Probably a fragment of debitage caught up in a fire. Dense creamy patina suggests it has endured long exposure to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC.

Flint with cortex strip [one only]; debitage. Four flakes with broad flakes struck from their dorsal sides by hard hammer strike, and with a bulb on the ventral surface of the largest, Two more have concave ventral surfaces, while the dorsal and ventral sides are indistinguishable on the last and longest flake. Dense creamy patina has developed over all struck surfaces, suggesting these objects have endured prolonged exposure to a calcareous environment after their deposition. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC.

Pale grey flint with cortex spots, debitage. Eight small chips of struck flint: five with a bulb on the ventral surface of which at least three also bear scars from the removal of small flakes from their dorsal sides. The remaining three chips also bear flake removal scars; in all cases from hard hammer strike. Patches of misty patina suggest they were subsequently exposed to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC.

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Grey flint with cortex spots; scraper. A flake of wavy profile with broad and narrow flakes struck from its dorsal side by hard hammer strike, and with a prominent bulb on the ventral surface. Patches of dense creamy patina have developed over the struck surfaces, indicating a period of exposure to a calcareous environment. This has been trimmed along one side of the flake by short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect. The Neolithic period could accommodate both episodes. Suggested date: Neolithic, 4000-2350 BC.
