A complete post-Medieval copper-alloy end-cap from a scale-tang knife in the form of a horse hoof (c. 1500-c. 1600). This end-cap is oval in cross-section throughout its length and curved in side profile. The terminal (foot) is flat with a groove representing the frog and has three circular indentations either side representing nails. There are transverse grooves around the exterior of the object to delineate the lower parts of the horses hoof and fetlock. It has a slot, 10.2mm in length, 1.5mm in width and about 2.4mm in depth. A copper-alloy end stop,from a scale-tang knife of the Post Medieval period, dating from c. AD 1600 - c. AD 1700. In cross section the body of the object is oval in form. In profile it is almost 'T' shaped with a semi-circular notch in the upper edge forming a bifurcate top. Two linear moulded ribs transverse vertically from the bifurcated top on each side to the base of the object. A deep central longitudinal sub-rectangular slot that enabled a tang to be accommodated is present at one end of the knife. This is filled with the remains of the iron tang which is now missing. The…
