Three flakes of Chert debitage, of probable Later Neolithic or Bronze Age date. All three flakes are of a gritty, brown chert, with two being secondary, and the third tertiary. This latter flake has a single much more heavily patinated removal scar, suggesting the reuse of earlier material. All of the flakes exhibit relatively irregular flake-like removals, on one flake (tertiary) clearly struck from multiple directions. Although the nature of the chert ensures that the bulbs of percussion are relatively diffuse, where they survive there is no small 'lip' below the striking platform t…

A fragment of a copper-alloy early medieval (Anglo-Saxon) pin dating to the period AD 700 to 900. Only the head of the pin and the upper part of the shaft survive. The head is biconical in shape. It tapers to a circular-section stem. Where the stem meets the head the stem has a circumferential collar. The presence of a small collar below the head indicates an early medieval rather than Roman date. This example belongs to Ross' (1991) 'Medium'-Biconical-headed Sub-type, which he assigns a mid-Saxon date range (ibid., 288). The pin measures 41mm in length, the head has a diameter of 8mm…

Copper alloy pin of uncertain date, with possible zoomorphic terminal The cast pin is near-complete but is heavily-corroded (with an overall length of 43.5mm and a weight of 3.4g). The terminal is asymmetric and of undulating form, possibly representing stylised opposing birds (with a width of 19.6mm and a thickness of 3.7mm). A complete cast lead pan weight, circular in plan and rectangular in profile with VIII stamped on the front face. It weighs 226g, which is just less than eight Averdupois ounces. The style of the letters suggests cAD 1600 - 1800. It is 47.25mm in diameter, c14.5mm thick, though this varies a little. The lead appears to have been battered a little out of shape, perhaps while in the ground, but there is also evidence that an edge may have been taken off, while there are also one or two small accretions of lead which suggest additions.
