Record ID: SOM-5A816E
Object type: RETOUCHED FLAKE
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A single flake of knapped flint of uncertain date. A secondary flake of mottled grey flint, with two small areas of surviving sandy, beige cortex at the proximal and distal ends, covering c. 15-20%. The striking platform is no longer present, although there is the suggestion of a large bulb of percussion. Sub-parallel removal scars are present on the dorsal face, struck from the same direction as the overall removal. In addition, struck from around 45 degrees to the others and cutting through the cortex, are three, small, parallel low angle removal scars, with this edge shows signs of…

Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Three flakes of Chert debitage, of probable Later Neolithic or Bronze Age date. All three flakes are of a gritty, brown chert, with two being secondary, and the third tertiary. This latter flake has a single much more heavily patinated removal scar, suggesting the reuse of earlier material. All of the flakes exhibit relatively irregular flake-like removals, on one flake (tertiary) clearly struck from multiple directions. Although the nature of the chert ensures that the bulbs of percussion are relatively diffuse, where they survive there is no small 'lip' below the striking platform t…

Record ID: SOM-597B96
Object type: RETOUCHED FLAKE
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Two flint flakes exhibiting limited retouch and probably dating to the later Neolithic or Bronze Age. Both flakes are incomplete, and tertiary. The first is of a mottled grey-brown flint, missing its distal end. A striking platform survives at the proximal end, with a diffuse bulb of percussion of the ventral face. A number of removal scars survive on the dorsal face, with removals from platforms both parallel and perpendicular to the overall flake removal. The right mesal edge has been blunted with abrupt, short, stepped retouch, with neater, abrupt, short, scalar, retouch to the lef…

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A crude flint end scraper, of probable Later Neolithic or Bronze Age date. A secondary flake of mottled grey-brown flint, with a thin layer of sandy, beige cortex surviving at the proximal end of the dorsal face, covering c. 20%. A striking platform and relatively pronounced bulb of percussion survive at the proximal end, with a bulbar scar. A single flake-like removal scar is evident on the dorsal face. The left mesal edge has been blunted by a series of crude scalar removals struck perpendicularly to the flake from the dorsal face. The distal end, curving around onto the right edge,…
