Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Fragment of an unidentified copper alloy openwork object. Broken on all edges but apparently not distorted, it curves gently in two planes. Around and between the two complete and five incomplete apertures there are lines of pecking. One very tenuous identification is as part of a lid of a censer, cf. HESH-8FC8F6. Extant dimensions 27.8 x 18.8 x 1.5mm. The diameter of the curvature is not accurately measurable. In one plane it appears to be less than c.110mm. Perhaps 11th - 12th century.

A complete copper alloy early medieval (Anglo-Saxon) stirrup strap mount. It is roughly pentagonal in shape with a straight lower end and pointed apex knop, pierced with a single circular hole. The outer face is engraved interlace decoration in high relief. This motif appears to be upside down compared to the standard arrangement on mounts of this form, with the heads of two opposed open-mouthed beasts at the lower end, double stranded bodies curving down either side of the mount, and in the centre one double stranded foreleg raised to meet each other in the centre and one curving dow…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete cast copper-alloy probable openwork strap fitting or book clasp dating to the earlier Medieval period, c. 1100-1200. The object consists of a broadly pentagonal openwork plate that is plano-convex in section, bearing a very superficial resemblance to Williams Class A type 1 stirrup-strap mounts. Below this are two elongated perforations, followed by a central circular perforation probably intended to fit over a peg anchored to a book cover. Coincident …

Incomplete copper-alloy Roman Trumpet brooch, dating to the period c.75 - 175 AD. The brooch is missing only its spring mechanism and pin. The bow narrows at approximately mid-point for a further flat circular knob. A narrow catchplate protrudes from beneath the mid-bow knob to the f…
