A collection of three chert cores of probable Mesolithic date (c. 10,000-4000 BC). 1) The first piece retainins a thin layer of nodular cortex covering about 20 per cent of the surface. The area of cortex is irregular in shape but the rest of the core is conical. Flake and bladelet removal scars cover approximately 80 per cent of the non-cortex walls. They appear to have been removed in the same direction, from the slightly concave striking platform at the top, which shows obvious signs of dressing. The chert is dark red in colour. Fragment of a bladelet, probably Mesolithic (10,000 - 4000 BC). Dark grey, mostly opaque flint. Tertiary blade. Bulb of percussion missing. Almost flat, smooth ventral face with faint conchoidal ripples. Dorsal face shows scars of parallel flake removal. At the proximal end a later flake removal has left a negative hinge fracture. A further removal scar at the distal end has a hackly texture which may suggest heat damage.
