Record ID: NLM-455134
Object type: SERRATED IMPLEMENT
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Pale pinkish-brown flint serrated implement fragment. A thin narrow flake or bladelet with long narrow parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a very slightly conxcave ventral surface. Very short abrupot retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one long edge, producing serrations so fine they are more readily felt than observed. The object is broken at one end, probably recently, revealing a creamy patina which may suggest the object has endured exposure to a calcareous environment after its deposition. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC. Length: 20.9…

Object type: CORE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A collection of three chert cores of probable Mesolithic date (c. 10,000-4000 BC). 1) The first piece retainins a thin layer of nodular cortex covering about 20 per cent of the surface. The area of cortex is irregular in shape but the rest of the core is conical. Flake and bladelet removal scars cover approximately 80 per cent of the non-cortex walls. They appear to have been removed in the same direction, from the slightly concave striking platform at the top, which shows obvious signs of dressing. The chert is dark red in colour. It measures 60.0mm long, 39.2mm wide, and 24.8…

Object type: BLADE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Fragment of a bladelet, probably Mesolithic (10,000 - 4000 BC). Dark grey, mostly opaque flint. Tertiary blade. Bulb of percussion missing. Almost flat, smooth ventral face with faint conchoidal ripples. Dorsal face shows scars of parallel flake removal. At the proximal end a later flake removal has left a negative hinge fracture. A further removal scar at the distal end has a hackly texture which may suggest heat damage. Retouched (short, scaled, semi-abrupt) all along the right-hand edge of the dorsal face (proximal end at top) and less extensively on the left-hand edge. Length: …
