Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Essex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Complete lead-alloy weight made by using a thimble as a casting mould. It is unknown whether the item is certainly a weight, but the use of lead would suggest that the maker sought to create a small item similar in size to a thimble, with a generally greater weight. The form of the thimble, as seen through faint impressions on the side and top of the weight, would suggest it is fairly modern, dating from c. AD 1750. A similar item has been recorded on the database under record number LANCUM-C652D5. Weight: 27.0g, height: 20.2mm, width at base: 16.0mm, thickness: 14.0mm
