An incomplete copper-alloy strap end of Early-Medieval date, c.AD 750 - 950. The strap end is of Thomas' Class A, Type 2 being tongue shaped with a zoomorphic terminal. The opposite terminal is broken and worn. The upper surface of the strap end bears an off-central rectangular panel of incised cross-hatched decoration flanked by irregularly spaced double banded borders. An incomplete iron knife of possible Early-Medieval date, c.AD 500 - 1000. The blade is sub-triangular in both plan and section with a straight back and curved cutting edge, blunted point to one end and sloping shoulders to a narrower sub-ovate tang at the other. The knife is extremely rusted and the organic handle is missing. The object is 111.2mm long, 16.3mm wide, 7.4mm thick and weighs 21g.

An early-medieval copper-alloy escutcheon dating c.AD 625-675. It is round and slightly dished in shape, with an overall diameter of 40mm and a large central hole (11 mm in diameter). The front is decorated with eight interlaced peltae forming an equal-armed cross around the central hole, and the design is filled with enamel. The rear of the escutcheon is undecorated. The escutcheon would have also included a frame, into which this piece would have been fitted, and a hook.

Lead possible weight. Cast rectangular block with cut ends, and with tiny pits over its largest opposed flat surfaces. Lightly patinated. Marks of this character are sometimes ascribed to chewing by vermin or children, but in this case they do not appear anywhere except on opposed sides, and so may be formed deliberately, perhaps with the point of a knife. The mass equates to one ora/ore, the slightly underweight Viking-Age equivalent to the ounce, and in this case may comprise six (slightly underweight) Scandinavian units of 4.07gms. Early Medieval, Late Anglo-Saxon copper alloy strap-end of Thomas' (2004) Class E, possibly Type 4 and of 10th century date The cast, tongue-shaped strap-end is incomplete, missing the attachment end and is now distorted (with a surviving distorted length of 38.9mm and a weight of 13.4g). The strap-end was thinner at the attachment end, now lost but has the discernible remnants of the integral flange (2mm thick). The strap-end is also widest at the attachment end (with a width of 25.7mm and a thickness of 3.2mm) with straight sides below, gradually narrowing to the rounded terminal.…
