An incomplete copper alloy Colchester derivative, hinged brooch dating to the Roman period (c. AD 43-65). The brooch comprises the wings, which have been decorated with incised linear grooves. The bow emerges from the middle of the wings as a bulbous projection, which curves and tapers to a narrow point at the foot. The top of the bow is decorated with a triangular shaped collar or incised diagonal lines pointing towards the top of the head. The reverse of the brooch is concave at the head where the hinge would once have sat. The catchplate and pin are no longer present. The overal…
