An incomplete copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill type, of Roman date (AD 80-400). The axis bar and spring mechanism appear intact although they are heavily corroded. The pin is missing. The wings are cylindrical in plan with wing / end caps intact. Three of the spring coils are visible at the reverse. The bow arches down from the head of the brooch, and narrows to a sharp point. On the reverse there is the base of the catch plate which is now missing. At the head of the brooch half of the spring remains, and the bow curves round to the top of the head, creating a circular attachment loop. A fragment of a Roman cast copper-alloy skeumorphic type swastika brooch dating to the second or third century AD. The fragment comprises three of the arms of a reversed swastika. Each arm is rectangular in plan and section. The upper surface of each arm is decorated with stamped ring and dot motifs in two sizes. On the underside of the fragment is a small, semi-circular pierced lug which is damaged. Iron corrosion surrounds this lug.
