A copper alloy contemporary copy of a Roman as of Claudius (AD 41 - 54) dating to the period AD 43 - 54 (Reece Period 2). Minerva reverse type depicting Minerva left, helmeted and draped, hurling javelin and holding round shield (the image is reversed) with S C below. Copying mint of Rome. cf. RIC I, p.128, no.100. Many copies of Claudian period asses were struck in Britain in the decades following the invasion of AD 43.
