An incomplete copper-alloy Medieval buckle pin. The shaft has an oval cross-section with bevelled upper and lower faces; its sides are slightly flattened and it has a blunt tip. On the lower side of the shaft, close to the tip, there is a small curvilinear recess due to the contact with the buckle frame. Another small recess is on the upper side close to the tip caused also by use. On the upper face of the shaft base there is a single ridge before the pin tapers creating an open loop. Incomplete Early Saxon to Middle Saxon copper alloy buckle: very small oval frame, a D-sectioned pin with drooping, blunt point, set with a slot in a sheet plate which survives only where folded around the bar. Marzinzik 2003, Class II, type uncertain. Frame length 9mm, width 12.7mm. Weight 0.74g. Late 5th - 7th century.

The fragment comprises both the upper and part of the plate which is rectangular in plan and section. The upper surface of the plate is marginally knurled and areas of gilding are visible. Worn and corroded fragment of medieval gilt copper alloy oval buckle frame, large trapezoidal expansion on the outside edge with slight lobe at both angles, stumps of sides only. The expanded outside edge has traces of engraved decoration. Extant length 20mm. Extant width 28mm. 1.5mm thick. Cf.
