Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Oxfordshire

A cast copper alloy furniture fitting of post-medieval date. The fitting is in the form of an equal-armed cros with slightly expanded terminals. There is no decoration visible on the front of the mount. On there reverse of the mount are four sunken hollows at the end of each arm, all filled with the remains of an unidentified substance presumabely to secure the mount in place. The form of the cross and the colour of the metal strongly suggests a post-medieval, if not later date. The mount probably adorned an item of furniture of casket / chest. Suggested date: AD 1500-1800.
