Fragment of a cast copper alloy horse bell with a rounded head with an integral square suspension loop that is 19 mm wide, 18 mm in height and 5.5 mm thick, with an oval perforation that is 6 mm long and 3.5 mm wide internally. The remains of the bell expand outwards from the head, which is 34 mm in diameter, to an edge of several jagged points, the longest of which is 41 mm in length. The bell is 3 mm thick at this broken edge and 48 mm in diameter. Copper alloy bell. A spherical bell formed by the folding inwards of four triangular leaves of sheet metal of thickness c.0.4mm, with a solid stalk with a flattened and rounded end bearing a drilled hole of diameter 3.3mm. Very slight traces of gilding appear. Now filled with soil. The finder kindly cites NLM-5BC82C as a parallel. Suggested date: Medieval, 1300-1500. Length: 25.0mm, Diameter: 14.1mm, Weight: (with trapped soil): 4.00gms

A complete post medieval cast copper alloy spherical crotal bell, dating to c AD1600 - 1800. It has a rectangular suspension loop with circular, probably drilled perforation with two circular perforations in the upper half of the bell, one of which has been, or has become, enlarged. There is radiating moulded tear drop shape or sunburst decoration above and below the raised central circumferential ridge. By the slot a maker's mark of the letters M and S appear, on one side, in separate rectangular cells, and the number 4 in a similar cell on the other. It contains its iron pea. Di…
