Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Blue-grey flint possible scraper. A thick flake with a broad flake struck from its dorsal side by hard hammer, and with a prominent bulb on its ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a curved edge. Misty patina has developed over the struck surfaces, suggesting a period of exposure to a calcareous environment. This is disrupted along part of the edge, possibly by battering or reuse of a discarded tool. The finder kindly suggests an identification as a tortoise scraper. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Length: 36.4mm, Width: 38.…

Grey-brown flint with cortex, possible scraper. A small thick flake with a little cortex trimmed by angled scalar retouch, and a limited zone of short abrupt retouch along one side. A bulb and ripples appear on the ventral surface. Some if not all of the apparent retouch could have arisen from edge-on impacts. Suggested date: possibly Bronze Age, 2350-800 BC. Length: 31.4mm, Width: 29.8mm, Thickness: 6.9mm, Weight: 7.46gms

Grey flint, possibly collected from the East Coast, plano-convex knife fragment. A thick flake with invasive angled scalar retouch on the dorsal side and with a bulb, recently chipped, at one end of the ventral surface. The object has broken longitudinally, across the site of the bulb, leaving a concave side edge. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC. Length: 40.8mm, Width: 18.6mm, Thickness: 12mm, Weight: 10.42gms

Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: West Berkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of Middle to Late Bronze Age (c.1500-900 BC) copper alloy spear, consisting of the tip of the blade only. It is roughly 'leaf' or 'flame' shaped but worn damage to both edges make it hard to determine its original form. At the oldish break the spear has a lozenge-shaped cross-section, measuring 12.3x8.9mm. The socket at this point measures 4.0mm in diameter and is off-set from the centre; this has resulted in a thin mid-rib edge at this point and a perforation further along the mid-rib in line with this. The central mid-rib is very pronounced and angular. The tip of the b…
