An incomplete copper-alloy Anglo-Saxon (early medieval) sleeve clasp of 6th century date. It is sub-rectangular in shape and with a curved profile. On the front face it has a central plain panel running lengthwise between a pair of raised lines, which have a series of four lobes flanking their outer edges. Between the lobes, where they touch the raised lines, there is a row of three circular holes on each side. The back face of the plate is plain. A cast copper-alloy open ring-type thimble of post-medieval date. It has a truncated-cone shape and has the exterior surface decorated with widely spaced rectangular indentations which are arranged in a right-hand spiral. The internal surface is undecorated and there is no seam. Diameter: 19.05mm, height: 10.63mm, thickness: 1.63mm, weight: 2.97g.
Read dates ring-type thimbles with right-hand spirals to c. 1550-1600 (2018, 12).

A complete copper alloy medieval seal matrix. The object has a circular base with a haxagonally faceted handle terminating in a trefoil suspension loop with a collar at its lower end. The handle is 8.95mm wide and 6.25mm thick. The outer face of the circular base is inscribed with a large letter I, crowned, with palm leaves to either side. It survives in fine condition with a shiny dark green patina.
The symbols of the palm (martyrdom) and crown (good luck or the sacred) may indicate that this design had a religious meaning, referring to Jesus, or saints John and James. Alternative…
