Cast copper alloy terret of knobbed type of later Roman date. The terret is sub oval (D shaped) in plan with an irregular sub-oval (D shaped) bow that has a flattened ovoid cross section. The attachment bar extends from a sub-rectangular plate / skirt and is triangular in cross section; it is broken and the horizontal bar (which would have been staple shaped) is lost. The lower plate is formed from two conjoined oval bosses (creating a figure of eight shape) from which at the mid-point of the upper surface the hoop springs. Object type: CANNON BALL
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Warwickshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Post Medieval (late 16th to 17th century) probable cannon ball: a broadly hemispherical corroded cast iron object which is heavily corroded. There are no signs of makers marks or casting seams, but these may be distorted by corrosion. It weighs 233g and measures c.65mm diameter. Although an inexact science, comparisons can be made with historic inventories of cannon shot, their dimensions and weights (see Blackmore 1976). These suggest that this ball might have been fired from a Robinet cannon. As this type endured from the later 16th century through the following century, with sligh…

Object type: PIN
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of a copper alloy early Iron Age ring-headed 'swan-neck' pin. Only the ring terminal survives. This is circular in cross-section - 5.00mm in diamater. There is a diagonal join at one side, below which a small damaged strip of metal projects from the outer edge - all that remains of the stem. This fragment is slightly narrower than the head and curves outwards at an angle, confirming that the complete stem would have been a 'swan-neck' rather than straight shape. The surface of the metal is pitted with corrosion, but where the original surface survives it has …

The flaking has left substantially conchoidal ripples on both sides of the flint and a substantial bulb of percussion on the ventral face, indicating hard hammer (stone on stone rather than antler, bone or padded …
