The object consists of an oval plate with a rectangular attachement loop at one end (now lost). The strap fitting consists of a sub-rectangular plate of copper alloy, with an indented attachment end creating two lobes on this edge. A complete copper-alloy buckle of Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1720 - 1790. The buckle is ovate with a drilled frame for a separate spindle. Internal curved transverse bars are present to either side of the spindle which itself has a double spiked tongue. Iron corrosion is present where the spindle meats the frame. The outer frame bears ribbed decoration. The metal has a dark green patina and is in fair condition. The buckle is 17.1mm long, 16.4mm wide, 2.6mm thick and weighs 1.3g. A similar example is illustrated in Whitehead, p.114, no.738 and is dated to c.AD 1720 - 1790.
