Copper alloy coin. Cartwheel penny of George III (1760-1820), second issue, 1797, Birmingham mint. The sides are indistinguishable, either because of damage by intense heat or through the application of now-concreted material over both sides. The edges are also ground, being intermittently flattened around the circumference.
