Small cubic lead weight or die. It measures c8mm square [8.3 x 8.1 x 7.9mm] and weighs 5.17g. It does not appear to have any markings, but it is covered in grey/white patination, and it is possible that there may be some present underneath. This could be of any date from Roman to post-medieval, but it came from a site where other early medieval artefacts have been found, so could possibly be a Viking weight and may be 9th century in date. An incomplete early medieval copper alloy stirrup strap mount, probably dating to c. AD 1000-1100. The surviving fragment comprises of the lozengiform plate, with the base and flange lost. The apex loop projects from the top corner of the plate, taking the form of a circular tab with an off-centre circular perforation. The frame is decorated with a highly devolved hirsute human mask cast in relief within a raised border which runs the circumference of the oval frame. An Acheulian greensand chert handaxe of 'ovate' type. The axe is well thinned and both faces exhibit large, shallow flake scars all over with only minor secondary edge working. An Acheulian greensand chert handaxe of 'ficron' type with an elongated tapering point and larger rounded butt. Both faces are carefully flaked to produce a lenticular cross section, thinning along the axis of the axe to a fine blunt-pointed tip. One face has a well-developed convex flake pattern, the other has a slightly off-centre axial ridge, enhanced by a well-developed hinge fracture to one side. The waist of the axe is relatively thick, and the asymmetrical butt has a wedge shaped axial profile. An incomplete, fine-grained sandstone whetstone of unknown date. Description: The whetstone is incomplete roughly surviving at 50% of original length, it is ovoid in section and was likely a long thin pointed oval in plan although one pointed end is missing. The remaining point is round and blunt and the broken edge is fairly worn. each wide flat surface has been heavily worn with use leaving the whetstone much thinner towards the middle of the whetstone.
