Small cubic lead weight or die. It measures c8mm square [8.3 x 8.1 x 7.9mm] and weighs 5.17g. It does not appear to have any markings, but it is covered in grey/white patination, and it is possible that there may be some present underneath. This could be of any date from Roman to post-medieval, but it came from a site where other early medieval artefacts have been found, so could possibly be a Viking weight and may be 9th century in date. Lead probable spindle whorl. Cast whorl of plano-convex profile with an off-centre moulded aperture of diameter 13.3mm. A rim around the hole is defined on both sides. The convex side bears surface irregularities which might suggest this to have been cast using one side of a biconical decorated whorl to form the mould in which this was made. The mass suggests a primary function plying cord. Another example of a copied whorl was reported along with this one from the same general location. Patinated. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1600. Diameter: 40.6mm, Thickness: 8.7mm, Weight…

Lead spindle whorl. Cast cylindrical whorl with a central moulded aperture of diameter 9.3mm, Walton Rogers form B. Patinated. A deep nick or manufacturing flaw appears across one side of the whorl. The aperture size may hint at an Anglo-Scandinavian date. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 950-1100. Diameter: 24.3mm, Thickness: 9.6mm, Weight: 34.02gms

Lead shot. Cast ball with a stub of casting sprue and faint traces of a mould line; patinated. The mass may suggest this to have been for use with either a pistol or a light fowling piece or 'rook and rabbit gun'. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1800. Diameter: 12.5mm, Weight: 12.01gms

Lead probable spindle whorl. Cast plano-convex whorl with a moulded central aperture of diameter 11.9mm. The convex face bears blurred relief decoration incorporating lines and pellets, and indicates that this object has been cast in a mould made by impressing one half of a biconical whorl into a medium such as clay. Another similarly crude copy of a biconvex whorl was reported along with this example. The mass tends to point to a primary function plying cord. The metal retains a grey tint, confirming a relatively recent date for this object. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1600. …
