An incomplete North Italian Marbled (marmorizzata) bichrome lion headed baluster shaped costrel (fiascha da viaggio), dating from AD1600-1650. The remaining costrel consists of neck and top half of the body this constitutes approximately half of the original vessel. The vessel has a thick flanged rim and tapering neck which swells into a near spherical 'bulb' shaped body. One fragment is rather flat and undiagnostic, the other is 'L' shaped in profile and likely represents the edge of a 'tegula' type rooftile. An incomplete cast copper alloy steelyard (scale with beam arms of unequal length), and suspension chains / loops of Roman date (1st to 2nd Century AD). The steelyard consists of a round sectioned arm with notched calibrations which are now very faint. A complete copper-alloy seal matrix of Medieval date in very good condition. The seal matrix is pointed oval in plan ('vessica'), with a raised band running down the centre on the reverse and a semi-circular lug at one end drilled with a circular perforation. Early medieval copper-alloy pin head (c. 500 - 900 AD). The pin has a globular head and a tapering, cylindrical shaft, which has broken off at the end. Green and red corrosion of the copper-alloy has obscured surface detail, but shallow circular knobs on the surface of the globular pin head suggest that the pin may have been decorated. It is this that suggests an early medieval date over a Roman one. The pin is 21.68mm in length; the diameter of the pin head is 8.32mm. The pin is 2.94g in weight. The pin is very similar to YORYM-F5D874, which was found in close proximity to it. …
