Description: The strap end would originally have consisted of two separate plates riveted together, a cast front plate and a sheet backplate, though only the cast front plate was recovered to record here. An incomplete Roman Developed T-shaped brooch dating to the period AD 50 - 150, with a hinged mechanism and a head loop. It is missing the shank of the pin. The head loop (5.5mm x 1.6mm) sits on top of cylindrical wings (spanning 21.3mm wide with a max. 3.6mm diameter). The central 0.5mm diameter piercing is countersunk from the reverse. A complete early-medieval copper-alloy strap end of Thomas type B1 dating to the late 8th - 11th century. Ref: Thomas 2003: 4 and fig 2.13. The strap end tapers from a wedge-shaped attachment end to a stylised zoomorphic terminal representing an animal head with snout and ears. A little under halfway from the attachment end along the shaft, the object is decorated with two transverse grooves or mouldings . This attachment end is split between front and back for the insertion of a strap, with two rivet holes for attachment (rivets do not survive).

A cast copper-alloy Roman buckle, dating to the late Roman period. The buckle has an integral openwork plate. The D-shaped buckle has facing dolphins and ring and dot decoration on the buckle and the plate. The extant pin is of different alloy to the buckle and plate, as are two copper rivets through the back of the plate to secure the buckle to its strap. The width of the butt of the axe is thinner than the blade tip, which tapers out to form a widened and slightly curving blade edge.
