Iron horseshoe. A thick wrought iron shoe of rectangular section with straight squared and slightly thickened ends to its arms. No discernible fixing holes appear, their positions presumably being masked by corrosion. The mass of the object - beyond the 500gm capacity of the available weighing equipment - indicates extensive survival of metal, and together with the form this points to a relatively recent date. The width and weight may suggest use with a draught animal or plough team. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1700-1900. Length: 148mm, Width: 130mm, Thickness: 17.2mm
