Lead bag seal. Cast disc with a slot in its edge and a bifurcated slot in the opposed edge, to function as a drawstring bag closure. A legend appears on one side, probably in German, and the numeral 8, much larger, on the other. The legend may suggest this to have been attached to an imported flour bag. Paul Cannon kindly comments as follows, correcting this reporter's initial reading: 'I believe this flour bag seal reads HUNGARIA / VEREINIGTE / DAMPF / MÜHLEN A G. The language is German. The object bears a coating of brown paint or varnish. The mass suggests an intended weight of one half ounce. The object is in unusually good condition, which may suggest that its context has suffered scant disturbance since its deposition. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1850-1900. There is a narrow foot ring at the base of a wall otherwise occupied by closely spaced machine-stamped pits which appear to rise in diagonal rows from right to left. The top is occupied by a rectilinear grid of similar pits. Squashed and torn. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1850-1900. Pottery. Sandy fabric with an oxidised outer margin and a partially reduced core, probably a North Lincolnshire sandy fabric; handle sherd. The handle was probably of lentoid section. The lack of any trace of glaze may commend a relatively early date, though the sherd is fiercely abraded. This sherd was kindly examined by Wallace Collyer of the North Lincolnshire Pottery Research Group. Suggested date: Medieval, 1150-1250. Weight: 36.48gms

A cast cauldron leg of triangular section, expanded towards its slightly everted foot which retains faint traces of two or more rounded protrusions, probably from a form resembling the paw of an animal. Broken at its upper end and fiercely abraded. Tiny patches of sooting from use on a hearth have survived the extensive post-depositional abrasion. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1350. Copper alloy mount. Rob Webley kindly comments as follows: 'I'm not convinced the enamelling here is in the Limoges tradition. You get a number of harness pendants and their suspension mounts with the cross of Toulouse on them so I'd suggest that this might be an accompanying harness mount'. An enamelled mount in the form of a cast rectangular plate with rectangular lugs projecting from its shorter sides.
