An incomplete and bent Roman copper alloy brooch of Colchester-derivative, Polden Hill type. The pin and catch plate are missing. The wings are semi-cylindrical with circular pierced end caps. There is an integral loop at the head end of the bow. The bow has a triangular cross-section at the head end, a more circular cross-section in the centre of the bow and a flat rectangular cross-section at the foot. A Medieval gilded and enamelled copper alloy mount dating to AD 1150-1300. The mount is T shaped in plan and flat in profile. The decoration depicts the nimbate Lion of St Mark. The head and neck of the creature is visible in the centre. The head is surrounded by a halo, enamelled in blue, most of which is preserved. A long pointed wing emanates from the centre and ends the top left hand corner and some of the wing's gilding remains. The body in the lower half of the plate is obscured by corrosion.
