A lead alloy probable vessel repair or pot mend, dating from the Roman to the Post Medieval period (c. AD 43-1700). The object is roughly oval in plan and consists of one large side from which projects a slightly smaller sub-triangular piece of lead. This would have passed through the hole in the vessel to secure the mend. The object has a creamy white patina. As Oakden (2017) states, 'pot mends of this form are found in both Roman and Medieval periods, as a common way to repair broken vessels. Small piece of casting waste from the join between two sides of a mould or a casting run off. Both sides are irregular and seem compaosed of runs of metal with a clear ridge down the centre form the mould joint. The piece is not distinctive and could be of any date from the Bronze Age onwards although it is evidence for specialist, high temperature, metal working. t may eb associated with other material found nearby, see SOM-79CE57.

A Roman drop handle of rolled copper-alloy dating to c. 50-409. The terminals are still hooked and the surface is worn. A utilitarian component this example has no decorative mouldings. Depth of 'drop' is 25.6mm. Drop handles were used as carrying handles or drawer handles on a wide variety of pieces of furniture in the Roman period, most commonly on wooden boxes and chests (Crummy 1983:81 nos. 2137, 2142), but also on gridirons and wooden tubs (Hanemann 2014, Abb. 55, 81).

A complete cast copper-alloy Roman nail cleaner dating to the late Roman period (c. AD 250-410). The nail cleaner has a suspension loop at the top and a short neck. From the thin shoulders the leaf-shaped blade tapers from the middle of the body to a parallel stem with bifid terminal. There is decoration on upper portion of of the main body which consists of an incised saltire with double linears above and below. The reverse is undecorated.

A complete cast copper-alloy Roman nail-cleaner with semi-circular notches at the neck Sub-group C dating to c. AD 50-200. Crummy Type 2a. The strap end has a suspension loop at the top, a short neck with crudely incised linear decoration and shoulders that taper down to a bifid tip. A vertical incised line is the only decoration on the main body of the nail cleaner. Probably part of a cosmetic set.

An incomplete copper alloy 'amphora-shaped' strap end of Late Roman dating to c. AD 250 to 410. The strap end is in fair condition possibly missing the lower section or tip and some of the reverse plate, which may have been silvered. Just below the top end of the strap, the usual 'handles' of the amphora-type strap end are, in this case, open crescents. There is no other decoration. One rivet is retained in the head. This strap end may have had a nail cleaner terminal as the rounded terminal has slight bifid moulding but both back and front plates respect the terminal.

A near-complete copper alloy Roman nail cleaner of Baldock Type dating from the first or second century AD. The nail cleaner has a slender leaf-shaped blade which narrows to a long tapering tip, the end of which (with the bifuricated tip) is broken and missing. The nail cleaner has a suspension loop set perpendicular to the blade which extends from the blade's rounded shoulders. There is no visible decoration. Dating from c. AD 43-200.

A base sherd from a Roman Central Gaulish Lezoux samian ware plate/bowl, possibly Form Drag 18 or Drag 31 dating to AD 135-170. The remaining sherd consists of part of the foot ring and base of the vessel. The centre of the base rises into a cone with a maker's stamp CREIRO.OFI impressed across the top of the cone at the centre of the interior of the vessel. This is the stamp of the potter Criciro v, who was working in Lezoux from AD 135-170. The foot ring is chamfered. A complete cast copper alloy Roman finger-ring key dating to c AD 250-300 (Guiraud type 5), in excellent condition. The hoop is D shaped and becomes flat (the bezel) at the point where it joins the bit so that it would have lain flat across the finger. The bit comprises a cyclindrical shank with a squared off S-shape extending from it at right angles. There are 4 small incisions along the opposing edge to the shank. The diameter of the hoop is 21.1mm, the length of bezel and bit is 19.3mm and its width 19.7mm. The finger ring key weighs 9.69 grams. Keys like this were probably used…
