Medieval (12th to 15th centuries) spindle whorl: A cast lead or lead alloy spindle whorl which is cylindrical with a central sub-circular perforation which is 7.87mm diameter. The upper surface of the spindle whorl is decorated with a high-relief square frame with four high-relief pellets, on in each corner. The surface is oxidised and is a cream colour. It measures 22.91mm diameter and is 10.66mm thick. It weighs 29.59g. Spindle whorls, as an artefact type, can be hard to date accurately as they remained in use for a long period of time.
