Medieval coin: Venetian soldino of an unidenitifiable doge, minted in Venice between 1365 and 1423. The soldino was known as the galyhalpens (galley-halfpence) as it was brought by the annual Venetian trading fleets. The soldino was about the size of English halfpennies and was popular because of a contemporary lack of small change: soldini in fact occur as English finds more often than proper halfpennies of the period. The Doge is Michael Steno and dates to the early 15th century.

Cast lead biconical spindle whorl. Both surfaces of the whorl are decorated with raised pellets, chevrons and lines radiating from the central perforation to the outer edge. The surface of the whorl is in good condition, with most of the decoration surviving, but the edge is worn in places. The central hole, which would have held a wooden spindle, is 9 mm in diameter. This perforation might also have been used to suspend the whorl, which lends itself to the theory that these were used as weights. These whorls are common finds in other regions of the country, but not as common in Cornw…

Incomplete cast copper alloy horse harness pendant in the form of a circle with four equally spaced knops, which would have originally been suspended within a quatrefoil frame, now missing. Between the upper two knops the circular plate extends into an arm with the suspension loop at its terminus. The loop hole is 2 mm in diameter and has broken open, so that the pendant has been divorced from its frame. The plate appears to have had some decoration but the surfaces are too corroded to make out any detail. Read (2001) illustrates horse harness pendants with four lobes or more knops…

The rivet hole is only 1.3 mm in diameter and the rivet is missing, or it might have been a sewing hole as the object is so delicate and thin. The mount is also lacquere…

The two grooves form the border either side of a moulded cabled pattern down the centre of the bow, which may have originally been enamelled, as on other examples recorded.
