A complete Medieval copper-alloy French Dolphin type jetton (c. 1373-1415). Obverse: +AVE mARIA GRASIA PLEnA, Bowed dolphin left holding a purse in its mouth. Reverse: Triple stranded straight cross fleuretty within 4-arched tressure, crown flanked by trefoils and pellets in outer angles. Diameter: 26.5mm. Weight: 3.60g. According to Mitchiner (ibid: 182), 'The dolphin ('dauphin') was [the] traditional badge of the Counts of Alban, Dauphins of Viennois'. Medieval circular lead spindle whorl with a straight-sided central hole, diameter 8mm. Decorated with six projecting lozengiform bosses separated by groups of vertical ribs. The circumference is followed by a pronounced casting flash. Diameter 24mm. Height 13.6mm. Weight 32.80g. Similar examples have been recorded in Norfolk from King's Lynn (HER 36070), Kenninghall (HER 39262), Upwell (HER 41359, NMS-6ADF54), Stody (HER 50107, NMS-1C3CD7) and Scarning (HER 60320, NMS-E88A39).
