A complete Medieval copper-alloy French Dolphin type jetton (c. 1373-1415). Obverse: +AVE mARIA GRASIA PLEnA, Bowed dolphin left holding a purse in its mouth. Reverse: Triple stranded straight cross fleuretty within 4-arched tressure, crown flanked by trefoils and pellets in outer angles. Diameter: 26.5mm. Weight: 3.60g. According to Mitchiner (ibid: 182), 'The dolphin ('dauphin') was [the] traditional badge of the Counts of Alban, Dauphins of Viennois'.
