Medieval pin from a disc-on-pin buckle, RedmayneType A5. This item has a large flat oval plate the face of which is decorated with five ornamental projections consisting of with a large protruding central rivet that has a globular head and narrow neck surrounded by four smaller protruding rivets, again with globular heads and narrow necks. Emanating from each side of the plate are two truncated spikes that would have formed hooks. This item was originally gilded, with much of the gold retained on the face of the plate. Mint of York (episcopal), so issed by the archbishop. 0.96g. Both inscriptions are difficult to read. Probably Spink 1613 and North 1228, issued by Archbishop Thoresby in the Transitional treaty period, 1361-1363 AD.

Incomplete and abraded medieval copper alloy sharp hooked dress fastener of hollow semi-circular cross-section tapering to the narrower, closed end from which springs an integral hook. An offset runs the length of the long sides to lie flat against a flat sheet back-plate. The convex face is decorated with pairs of transverse grooves at both ends, and between them with deeply filed lines in cross-hatched lozengiform pattern. Medieval gilt copper alloy harness fitting, a bent trapezoidal hook-plate of thick sheet with two holes filled with the remains of iron rivets and a slightly distorted backward facing integral blunt hook at one end. A large version of Egan and Pritchard 1991, nos. 729 and 731. A small amount of gilding remains on the front face. Overall length 77mm. Length of plate 55mm. Width 14.9mm, rising to 16.1mm at the springing of the hook. Thickness of plate 2mm. 13th - 14th century.

The brooch has a circular cross-section frame that is bent round to form a loop, although one arm has been bent outwards slightly distorting that frame. The terminals (one is now truncated) have been bent back on themselves and then flattened. Otherwise the brooch is undecorated. The pin is missing.
