Unidentified copper alloy object, possibly Iron age and might be either a toggle or button & loop fastener. The object is made of copper alloy and is in the form of an incomplete solid bilobal head with a centrally located circular recess of 6mm diameter surrounded by two concentric channels, with a row of dotted decoration along the dividing ridge. Part of one of the lobes is missing due to an old break. In the centre of the recess there is a small hole, which may indicate it originally contained a decorative inclusion. There is the stub of a (probable) ring loop at the rear. The obj…

An elaborate iron stylus dating to the second or third century AD. At one end, the stylus possesses an almost semi-circular, wedge-shaped spatulate eraser. A 'rounded' flint scraper of likely Neolithic - early Bronze-Age date c.4000 - 1000BC. Description: The scraper is made from a rectangular shaped piece of flint with rounded edges. The scraper has retouch along three edges which due to the length of the sides is 85% of the edges. The retouch on the right side of the dorsal face is short scaled and semi-abrupt, while on the bottom edge it is short, scaled abrupt retouch. The retouch on the left edge is however flaking angled towards the ventral face and is short scaled and semi-abrupt. The ventral face has a shallow bulb of percussi…

An unidentified lead object of unknown date. The object is semicircular in plan, with two surfaces joined at their flat edges by a rectangular surface. This surface has a series of incised grooves on it, giving the appearance of runes, but they are unlikely to be so. One curved edge is scalloped, possibly as a result of wear. The inside of the object, between the two surfaces, appears to be solid, with a gap between them only at the perimeter. The surface is worn with a cream patina. The object measures 21.08mm in length, 28.65mm in width, 7.48 in thickness and weighs 29.02g.

A small D-shaped flint scraper of early-mid Neolithic date c.3500 - 2200BC. Description: The scraper is made from a D-shaped flake, with very limited short scaled semi-abrupt retouch around the convex side of the scraper. The scraping edge along the flat side is long stepped and semi-abrupt. The flaking to produce the scraping edge almost entirely obscure the bulb of percussion. The conchoidal ripples from the now obscured bulb of percussion and other flaking are quite substantial. The flint is a dark grey colour over three quarters of its surface with a long crescent quarter of th…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy annular brooch of Medieval date, circa AD 1200-1300. The frame is ovoid with a rounded convex upper face with a flat reverse. The front face is decorated with six evenly spaced broadly oval collets. It is likely that these settings once held a glass stone or paste as illustrated on an example in Read (2001:p.109). Read's example no. 788 contained alternating white paste and opaque glass settings. In-between the collets the front face is decorated with a series of drilled annulets. On the left hand side of the frame, between two collets is a separatel…

A flint implement of uncertain use, likely dating to the Neolithic, c.4000 BC - 2200 BC. Description: The implement is irregularly shaped, in cross-section it is triangular as the dorsal face has a central ridge and is convex. The bulb of percussion is very very subtle as are the conchoidal fractures / rippling. There is irregular short scaled semi-abrupt retouch along the sides. The retouch may in fact be intentional blunting with battering/bashed edge (similar to backed edges of backed blades) rather than retouch but it isn't clear why this would happen on both edges. The impleme…
