A copper-alloy post-medieval to modern thimble. The regularity of the size and pattern of the dimples suggest this is machine made. Large quantities of machine made thimbles were imported from Holland during the 18th century. The thimble appears to fit into Type II or Type III according to the Finds Research Group Datasheet 9 (Holmes 1988), which suggests a date of 1650 - 1800. The thimble is worn and has some damage - part of the base is missing and there is a small irregular hole in the dome.
