Fragment of Roman Central Gaulish (Lezoux) or East Gaulish (Trier) samian ware mortarium type Dragendorff 45 or 43 (late 2nd century - mid 3rd centuryAD). The small fragment has a pink/orange fabric, the upper surface has embedded grits used as a grinding surface, made up predominantly of quartzite. Both the topside and the underside are coated in a red slip which is slightly abraded . The underside is ridged concentrically and would have come from near the base foot ring. A lead-tin shoe buckle dating to the late Medieval - early Post Medieval period AD, 1400-1550. The buckle has a circular buckle frame with a central cross-bar. The frame is decorated with a raised, bevelled band along the centre of the frame and beading around the edge. The cross-bar has a central groove to secure the pin. The iron wire pin is missing. Examples of this form of buckle on the database are PUBLIC-608D6A, LON-D36970 and LON-7A4E36. Several similar examples have been excavated in London, Egan & Pritchard (1991:66-7 no.227) write that the numbers suggest these were a …

A complete copper alloy casket key from the Medieval period. The key is small with an oval cross section stem. The bow extends from the stem and is sub-circular in plan with a cast central hole. The opposite end of the stem has a centrally drilled hole and a double warded bit. The key is corroded, pitted and exhibits an olive green patina. overall the key is 34.12mm long, 4.06mm thick, the bow is 11.42mm in diameter, the stem is 5.21mm at its widest point, the bit is 6.75mm wide and 1.63mm thick. Post Medieval (c. 1500 to 1900) probable lead token: The token is an octagonal shape and has a design on one facing, consisting of ligatured 'HH' within a beaded circular border. Powell Type 2. The reverse is undecorated. The surface is a cream colour. The token measure 14.87mm long, 15.24mm wide, 1.8mm thick, weighing 1.89g. Lead tokens had a wide variety of potential uses such as use as tallies, gaming pieces, tickets, weights, etc. and are believed to have been locally produced; they are therefore difficult to date precisely. The strap end is narrowed and has a D-shaped section. The loops expand in width to the apex. The pin is missing. The buckle frame surface is abraded and has patches of a dark green-grey matte patina. The buckle measures 52.16mm long and 57.66mm wide. It weighs 21.03g. An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy single-loop spur buckle with an integral buckle plate (c. 1200-c. 1400). The pin is largely missing. The frame is 'D'-shaped with curving sides and a straight outer edge. A central knop at the outer edge is grooved as a pin rest at the front. It has a triangular shaped bow, tapering towards its terminal end, that is V-shaped in section with a relatively deep central oval shaped groove on the interior surface. This cast-in-one fitting consists of two rectangular loops flanked by a pierced central thickened lobe which contains the remains of a copper-alloy stem. At each end of the fitting there is a thickened pierced lobe. One of the lobes has a pointed knop. This fitting is reddish brown and has no patina or trace of any surface treatment. Consequently, it has been classified as a buckle rather than a brooch (Egan and Pritchard 1991: 57). It is circular in plan, oval in cross-section.
