Early Saxon copper alloy Cruciform brooch of Martin 2015, Type 2.2.1, badly bent at the bow and in rather worn condition. The integral headplate knobs are flat-backed and the wings are trapezoidal. The bow is hollow-backed with rectangular panels at the top and base. There is no extant decorative detail on the footplate. The reverse of the headplate is quite smooth with no sign of a pin lug. Post Medieval copper alloy sewing ring or open top thimble. Flattened frustrum-shape with four horizontal rows of hand punched pits running from top to bottom; A grooved ring runs approximately 2mm above the base. Just beyond where the pits terminate towards the base there is a saltire cross maker's mark astride the groove. Circa 1550 to 1650 AD and a possible product of Nuremberg. Flattened length 23mm, height 11.6mm.
