An incomplete post-Medieval lead or lead alloy circular double-sided token (c. 1500-c. 1850). Powell Type 2/2. The token has raised initial letters: W I on one side and H I on the other side. This token is greyish buff. Diameter: 24.2mm. Weight: 7.22g. Lead tokens had a wide variety of potential uses such as tallies, gaming pieces, tickets, weights, etc. and are believed to have been locally produced; they are therefore difficult to date precisely. Those carrying initials are generally deemed to be post-Medieval in date (1500-1850), those which seem to mimic Medieval penny…

A cast lead, or lead alloy, spindle whorl of Roman to Post Medieval date (AD1 - 1650). In plan the spindle whorl is sub-circular. There is a sub-circular perforation which measures 3.91mm in diameter. Both faces of the object are flat and un-decorated. The surfaces of the spindle whorl have a light grey coloured patina. Spindle whorls are used for a long period of time and decorated examples are thought to date to the medieval to post-medieval periods.
